“Help fellow lawyers who were devastated by Katrina”
November 29, 2005
To All Members:Re: Katrina Relief for Defense Attorneys
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers has organized a Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund and has already raised approximately $150,000 to assist needy defense lawyers and two criminal justice organizations in the Gulf States. Imagine, if you will, that your office has been completely destroyed, your files gone, the courts either closed or in disarray, your clients scattered to the winds or languishing in jail with no one to hear their cases. This unthinkable reality is what our brothers and sisters at the bar face week in and week out, in addition to any personal losses they and their families have had to endure.
The NACDL has made a special request for all of the 90 affiliates in the country to make a contribution to the National’s effort to assist these attorneys. Although our treasury does not permit us to simply write a check, we know that our Association is made up of caring and committed professionals who support one another in the defense of the accused. On behalf of the Trustees, I am writing to request that you help the Association to make an affiliate donation by forwarding a check to the ADCL-NJ in the amount of $100 for Katrina relief. It is our hope that the collective contributions of past Presidents, Trustees and members will enable our Association to make a meaningful contribution to the professional future of our colleagues in the Gulf States. Kindly forward your contribution payable to the Association (memo “Katrina Relief”) by December 19, 2005 so that we can forward our affiliate donation before year’s end.
Thank you for joining us in this important effort.
Robert S. Bonney, Jr.
President
