Legislation
The ACDL‑NJ is dedicated to advocating on behalf of the fair administration of criminal justice in New Jersey and across the nation. Through its Legislation Committee—historically one of the Association’s most important committees—the ACDL‑NJ monitors, evaluates, publicly comments on, and testifies before legislative bodies regarding proposed and newly enacted legislation. The ACDL‑NJ also participates in this capacity with respect to proposed changes to New Jersey Court Rules and administrative regulations. In the past, the Association’s positions have led to reconsideration of proposed laws and regulations and to heightened awareness by the judiciary of potential deficiencies in newly enacted legislation.
